The storage capacity of our boats depends on the model, with canoes (Canadian canoes) typically offering more space than kayaks. To help you plan, here is an overview of the approximate storage volumes and packing tips.
Boat Storage Capacity
- K1 (Single kayak): approx. 150 liters
- K2 (Double kayak): approx. 350 liters
- C2 (Two-person canoe): approx. 400 liters
- C3 (Three-person canoe): approx. 250 liters
- C2 big (large two-person canoe): approx. 500 liters
- C3 big (large three-person canoe): approx. 350 liters
For comparison, a large trekking backpack typically holds 60-70 liters.
Kayaks: Storage Space and Packing Tips
Our kayaks are equipped with two watertight compartments—one at the front and one at the back. Compared to canoes, packing a kayak requires a bit more planning, as large items like a full trekking backpack usually won’t fit.
Packing tips for kayaks:
- Portion larger items into smaller bags: Instead of packing a large trekking backpack, remove its contents and store them in smaller, waterproof dry bags that fit more easily into the kayak’s compartments.
- Light items on the deck: Sleeping bags and tents can be stored in waterproof bags and secured to the deck.
- Heavy items low and centered: Place heavier items as low and close to the center as possible to maintain the kayak’s balance and stability.
Advantage: Despite the somewhat limited storage space, our K1 and K2 kayaks are designed to carry everything you need for a 1- to 2-week tour with ease.
Canoes: Spacious and Flexible Packing Options
Canoes offer large, open storage space and are perfect for carrying bulky or extensive gear such as large tents, waterproof barrels, or coolers. Compared to kayaks, packing a canoe is more straightforward because you’re not limited to small compartments.
Packing tips for canoes:
- Use waterproof barrels: We recommend using waterproof barrels (available for rent) to protect your gear from water and damage.
- Place heavy items in the middle: This improves the boat’s balance and stability.
- Store light items at the bow and stern: This ensures better maneuverability, even when fully loaded.
