In general, the water in the lakes of our region is clean and drinkable, especially in the clear lakes such as Lelång (our home lake) and Foxen. Both lakes are deep, have little shoreline vegetation, and therefore very clear water. However, we cannot give a general “yes” to drinking untreated water.
Even if the water looks clear, microbes and contaminants may be present but invisible. We always recommend applying safety measures such as boiling or filtering to ensure the water is safe for extended use on long tours.
When and how is the water safe to drink?
- Recommendation: Boil the water for 5-10 minutes, filter it, or treat it with Micropur tablets before drinking.
- After heavy rainfall: Rain can wash natural microbes into the water. In such cases, it’s especially advisable to purify the water before use.
- Water collection: Collect water a bit away from the shore. Submerge the opening of your container beneath the surface to avoid debris or impurities floating on top.
- Drinking Water: You can also fill up drinking water directly at our rental station or at the guest harbor in Gustavsfors.
